Spring is almost here!
Dear Friends,
I must say that my spirits are high after a beautiful week of warm weather. The birds were chirping early in the morning, the sun was shining, and the wind blew constantly, reminding me as I walked across campus of the hours I used to spend in the fields flying kites on spring days with my brothers. This week at school didn't even seem too difficult even with 4 tests. I am ready for spring break, and it is thankfully right around the corner. I get so fidgety in the spring. The semester is almost half over and I can't wait to get outside and start digging in the dirt. I just want to skip a whole day of classes and go to the farm to fly a kite on the top property, wouldn't that be great?
My classes are going well. I have my first Political Science test this Thursday and there is a ton of material that it is going to cover. God has been faithful in the past to help me through my hard classes, and I am sure that I can place my trust in Him for this class.
God has really been showing me this week that I desperately need Him, not only for salvation but for my everyday life. He's also been showing me that there is nothing good in me, and trust me, He has been SHOWING me my sin. If you ask God to reveal to you what your sin is, be prepared because He will! Here are a couple of verses that God has directed my attention to:But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. And there is no one who calls on Your name, who stirs himself up to take hold of You. Isaiah 64: 6
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13
Praise God that He has provided the means for our salvation! Since all that we do is unrighteousness in God's sight, we can be overjoyed to know that He provided His Son Jesus to take our place on the cross. So Jesus died for our place, so we could get His righteousness if we believe in Him...and this righteousness makes us acceptable to God!
I'm also reading a book right now called "The Pursuit of Holiness" by Jerry Bridges. It is excellent! It is a very easy read and I encourage all Christians to read it, study it, and pray over it. Bridges talks about personal holiness after salvation and it is really helping me understand my sin and God's grace. Here is an excerpt:
The same grace that brings salvation teaches us to renounce ungodly living. We cannot receive half of God's grace. If we have experienced it at all, we will experience not only forgiveness of our sins but also freedom from sin's dominion. No one can trust in Jesus Christ for true salvation unless he trusts in Him for holiness.
I hope everyone reading this has a wonderful week!
Until next time,
Sarah D.
