The Fourth O' July
It is once again that time of year...the smell of chicken barbecuing on the sizzling grill, the sweet taste of home-grown watermelon, and the sound of fireworks popping in the starry sky. Oh, the joy of Independence Day. This morning it was really nice to sleep in. Dad and I had been up talking until 1:00 a.m. which was really fun since I haven't really been able to talk to him over the last week due to his business trip in Indiana. Our family sat around the breakfast table for at least an hour talking about the week's events.
Later, all of us kids loaded into the van for the pool where most of the people from our church are members. It was HOT and we got some good sun. Little James started withering away even after I slathered him down with sunscreen. As it turns out, the little guy came down with a fever and was escorted home by big brother Luke.
For the evening events the family headed to the farm for a big cookout with the family that bought our place a couple of years back. I stayed home with James, who was burning up with a fever by afternoon. Reuben bought a ton of fireworks and shot some for me in our back yard when he came home. Sweet! When they were shooting fireworks at the farm John Mark (who is 12 and very...energetic) almost hit two people with a Roman Candle. Actually, it did skim the top of one man's head! We had a good laugh about it after the fact. : ) As for me, my evening consisted of watching TV with James, talking on the phone with a friend, and getting an email from another friend saying she is engaged...I think. All the email said was, "I said yes." So, I'm assuming she said yes to marriage? Awesome! Well, this gal is headed for bed. Night!
